Jewelry as representations of mood, spirit and Time. Some US jewelry designers favored by Weltenbuerger.

Our obsession for great design is not limited to clothing. We here at Weltenbuerger are constantly inspired by thought provoking design. Design for furniture, architecture, prints, art etc. etc. We look for emotionally charged designs. Designs that are representations of intangible ideas and/or emotions. We found that jewelry is a great way to transcend emotions or spirit. To represent time as it is in a moment. Even, represent a time period in one’s life or even day. To wear a representation of whats inside our minds is in a way liberating. A piece of jewelry can hold onto our ideas or thoughts or feelings. Allowing us to free our minds for tasks or situations at hand. Also, protect us from situations.

Jewelry also has an opposite affect. Jewelry can create moods and/or feelings. Feelings of empowerment or Enlightenment. The right piece can make you feel calm and an other can make you feel confidant. Its about connecting with the jewelry and discovering what you can gain from wearing a emotionally charged item.

Upon discovering US clothing designers, that are helping us tell the story that is Weltenbuerger, we also discovered great US jewelry designers. We are happy to introduce to you some of our US jewelry collection. The simplistic designs of Metal-Smith (San Francisco) are great for calming oneself. Their geometric shapes are great for representing reliance and stability. While they’re delicate details represent vulnerability. The elaborate and elegant designs of Quarry (NY) have an ancient feel. Good for representing wisdom and power. They can really make you feel exotic and important. If you want to feel contemporary and abstract, Faux/Real (NY) is what to wear. They are great to represent a playful seriousness. To feel bold elegance there is Myrrh Jewelry (LA). These pieces are good for representing ones individuality and spirit.

Metal-Smith (San Francisco)

“Metal Smith is designed and hand forged in San Francisco by Isabella Behravan. My inspiration for this first Metal Smith collection comes from the profound significance between jewelry and the person who wears it. My designs are a direct reflection of the techniques I use. Because of this, I draw a lot of inspiration from the metal itself—the subtle colors and textures created in the metalsmithing process are fundamental to my designs.Metal Smith is synonymous with refined hand wrought qualities.” -taken from metal-smith.com

Quarry (New York)

Ninh Wysocan, who studied sculpture and furniture design at RISD and has helmed an eponymous fine jewelry line—notable for organic forms fashioned from precious metals—since 2003. She launched Quarry, a more accessibly-priced line of bold statement pieces, in spring 2011. “Making fine jewelry is something I really love, but because of the materials there are some basic constrictions that have prevented me from exploring larger sizes and more unusual stones,” Wysocan told The Fashion Informer of her new line.”With Quarry, the design is much more about creating statement pieces in bronze and brass with really beautiful, but rarely used, semi-precious gems/minerals. While my fine jewelry line is about organic forms, layering and drapery, Quarry is inspired by a wide mix of more minimal architecture and traditional tribal jewelry. I like to think about what it might mean to make amulets for our age: What kind of superstitions does today’s woman need to ward off? And what sort of symbolic form does that yield?” -taken from the fashion in former.

Faux/Real (New York)

“FAUX/real is the evolutionary voice of several minds brought together to express their inner selves, the medium at hand being wearable designs. We blur the lines of reality through the exploration of the future and the relativity of the now.” And that’s the message of FAUX/real, Brooklyn’s jewelry duo of Louis DeCicco and Jennifer Franzese, the creative minds behind New York’s break out line.

Myrrh Jewelry (Los Angeles)

MYRRH is a line of hand-made artisan jewelry, from Los Angeles, California. Influenced by the landscapes & moods of the nearby Mojave Desert, it represents the spirit of the urban gypsy girl who love fashion and travel.

MYRRH latest collection “Fractals” is influenced by fractals in nature and our interpretation of them.

Seriously fine design, humorously conceived. New York based jewelry line FAUX/REAL has just found its way to Weltenbuerger Store LA. Pieces from two of their conceptual collections are now available at our Los Feliz location. These particular collections Work OUT/in & Full Time Job are inspired by body building and office politics respectively. Next time you’re stuck at your sucky desk job while your prick of a boss leaves to play golf, I highly recommend you stick it to the man by tanking an afternoon on the clock to pore over the FAUX/REAL website. Always good for shits & giggles. And you’ll be quite impressed to see shackles & paper clips emerge into luxury items.

FACTORY BY ERIK HART

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

FACTORY by Erik Hart // Now available at Weltenbuerger

Erik Hart works / creates within fashion, visual art, and sound.
Factory by Erik Hart is his latest concept collection.
Factory is an interdisciplinary exercise with its focus on the creation/production of clothing, installation, video, sound, and objects.
The range focuses on Hart’s signature aesthetic and design approach. An exercise in balancing the tension created between contrasts and duality. The dichotomy of androgyny and femininity, high and low, vulnerability and confidence, restraint and excess.
The collection itself draws from a base of soft tailoring, directional feminine silhouettes, minimalist sophistication paired with street sensibilities, and a keen eye for construction and quality.

“After spending time working on a projects in east London and Berlin, I was inspired by the idea of juxtaposing my work with that of the artist ABSOLON. I was moved to create flowing silhouettes through the restriction of geometry” - Erik Hart

LIKE /// UNLIKE

Friday, May 25th, 2012

A couple of years ago my husband & I went semi-nomadic & lived in Copenhagen & Berlin where we slept in 23 beds in 12 months. Being a stranger in those strange lands wasn’t too bad thanks to a website called Unlike.  It is hands down the best online city guide in the world.  I’ve really missed it here back home, but now - lawd have mercy - Unlike has finally come to LA!!!  So wether you’re a tourist who wants to know where those in-the-know go or a local who wants the low-down on your stomping ground, Unlike is going to make all of our lives a little better.

Here’s a humdinger of write-up they did on Weltenbuerger.

Look out for the 25 Hours tour of Weltenbuerger’s favorite LA places on the eastside and beyond.

Freedom 2K video from LA Vampires /// Octo Octa

Freedom 2K video from LA Vampires /// Octo Octa

Freedom 90 may have had a cast of supermodels and David Fincher directing but we say it ain’t got nothin’ on Freedom 2K. The video for the new single by LA Vampires, which premiered on Stereogum this morning, features our very own Jillian Cainghug. And the reason everyone in it looks so fresh is because Jillian also styled the video with wardrobe provided entirely by Weltenbuerger.

In related news, LA Vampires’ mastermind and front woman Amanda Brown has just been enlisted to be a Weltenbuerger blog contributer. She will be providing her very own mixtapes on the regular. So check back soon - the first one will be coming down the pike any day now.
